Norman was born in Bradford in 1915 and joined the Royal Navy when he was 15, from which he retired in 1959 and went to live in Bedford. The following day he joined Brookhirst Igranic Engineering Company, where he was an Electrical Control Design Engineer in the Crane section - for most steel works cranes throughout the world. Also Telpher equipment for dams built around Yorkshire and supplying many places abroad.
Norman retired in 1980 and his hobbies have included all Service sports. In 1934 he played rugby against Bedford - and in 1986 he took part in the World Field Archery Championships. Now he goes fell walking, mostly in Yorkshire.
He still lives in the Bedford area with his wife, Joan, and last year they celebrated their Diamond Wedding Anniversary by going on a Norwegian Cruise.
At the age of 85, Norman still has ambitions - mainly to have more time to spend on his computer, but is handicapped by too much work around the house and garden. Also walking with his greatest friend, Sasha - a lovely Border Terrier.
