Roger Hird

Roger, who now lives in Clapham, London, grew up on Merseyside and was educated as a physicist at Birmingham University. He became a Civil Servant in DTI and took early retirement in 1997, then in 1999 started working as a self employed tourist guide.

He's also a member of the National Measurement System Working Group on Software Support for Metrology and on the European Commission's panel of experts for project evaluation, monitoring and appraisal in the current Science and Technology Framework Programme. In the context of this, he chairs the panel of independent experts monitoring the 1999 activities under the Framework's new Information Society Technologies programme.

In the voluntary sphere, Roger is treasurer of the Southwark Cathedral Millennium Trust and a member of the Council of the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG).
